Back in Bangkok we prepaired a lot of stuff for the architecture and design of the exhibition „Pattern & Signs“.
January 21 we started the set up at Jamuree Gallery. Six artists of the project (Varsha Nair, Jerome Ming, Doris Hinzen-Röhrig, Petra Jung, Alfred Banze, Christine Falk) prepared the exhibition. Sometimes, people cannot understand our way of thinking in connection with aesthetically decisions. We moved away some walls (from a modular system) to open closed windows in the exhibition room. The atmosphere in the gallery room changed a lot and it looked much better. Happy with this result we could agree with some other „no-go´s“ connected with the hierarchy.
January 25 in 2011 at 6 pm, the exhibition at the Jamjuree Art Gallery of Chulalongkorn University was opened. It was a great evening with many interesting guests. The Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, Prof. Dr. Sittichai Tudsri, and the German Ambassador in Thailand, Dr. Hanns Schumacher had a speach. In the name of all artists, the project initiator Doris Hinzen-Röhrig thanked all partners for the support of the project. After the ceremony, very thai style, the buffet and than the exhibition was opened. Dr. Hanns Schumacher and Prof. Dr. Sittichai Tudsri were guided through the exhibition and had many interesting questions. The German Ambassador Dr. Schumacher asked me how we can manage to realize all these projects. My answer was: we live for that, we work and safe money and we try to live cheap on the trips.
Many visitors arrived later, after the ceremony. We received about 100 visitors. One of the visitors was Amit Elan, who was invited from us when we realised he is in Bangkok too. It was a nice meeting.
At the day after the opening we had a workshop with art students from the Chualalongkorn University. In four small groups we worked in different ways: drawing with pencil or chalk, video and story telling.
In the evening we went to Varsha Nair for an excellent vegetarian indian dinner. I like this evenings very much, when all artists come together and talk about life and experiences.
Next day Alfred and I started a short trip to Surin Islands, one of the most famous spots for snorkelling and diving. When we arrived, we realized that almost all corals died after a hot period in May 2010, shocking….
After 30 years I started to make camping and we relaxed some days in the quiet atmosphere of natur.
And we got a great message in between: our application for „Pattern & Signs“ Berlin at „Projektfonds Kulturelle Bildung“ was successfull. Now we are sure, we can realize the exhibition and the workshops with all involved artists in the summer 2011. The project will take place at Kunstverein Tiergarten and Menzelschule in Moabit.
Back in Bangkok again, we take care of the exhibition, manage all the works around it, like documentation etc., meet friends and artists from the area, and prepair the upcoming workshops in Berlin.
